First Album

Young Dolph released his debut studio album King of Memphis on February 19, 2016, under his own record label Paper Route Empire. It consisted of 11 tracks – Facts, F*ck It, Royalty, Both Ways, USA, How Could, On My Way, Let Me See It, It’s Goin’ Down, Real Life, and Get Paid, which was the most prominent song, and the only single for the album, released a week before the album itself. The album peaked at the 49th spot on the US Billboard 200 chart that year.

  1. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, but moved with his family to Memphis, Tennessee when he was 2 years old.
  2. Young Dolph witnessed his parents smoking crack, which inspired the lyrics for his hit track Preach.
  3. He was raised by his grandmother, who died of lung cancer in 2008. The other grandmother cared for his 2 sisters in Chicago, Illinois.
  4. Young Dolph wanted to make money since he enrolled in elementary school. He promised himself that he would get his parents out of the hood as soon as he could.
  5. He had a near-death experience the same year his grandmother died (2008) when he got into a nasty car crash. Both of these incidents were what inspired Young Dolph to start rapping as a form of an emotional release.
  6. He claimed that tried to sign him to his CMG imprint record label, but he refused. Young Dolph didn’t like the way Yo Gotti treated the people he signed, and also wasn’t ready to abandon $3 million he invested in his own record label.
  7. Young Dolph nearly lost his life in a shooting in Charlotte, North Carolina in early 2017. According to the police, around 100 rounds were fired and hit vehicles and nearby residences. He wasn’t harmed, and his rival, rapper Yo Gotti, was accused of having something to do with it.
  8. When asked how he managed to survive over 100 rounds fired, he said that his SUV car was bulletproof and that he paid around $300,000 to make it secure. He also used the unfortunate event to promote his studio album titled Bulletproof, released on April 1, 2017.
  9. On September 26, 2017, he was shot multiple times in Los Angeles, California. Young Dolph was reportedly in critical condition but survived, and Yo Gotti was a person of interest once again.
  10. While recovering, he filmed parts of the music video for the song Believe Me in the Los Angeles hospital.
  11. Young Dolph refused offers of up to $12 million by major recording labels but said that he was still open to options in the future.
  12. In May 2018, after he heard that 2 baristas were fired from their job after listening to his Get Paid single which was deemed inappropriate, he invited them on-stage at his next concert and gave them $20,000 each as a reward for being loyal fans.
  13. Young Dolph managed to release 5 mixtapes in 1 year in 2015. High Class Street Music 5: The Plug Best Friend was released in February, Felix Brothers in June, BagMen in July, 16 Zips in late July, and Sh*ttin’ On The Industry in October of that year.
  14. The song titled Major, which he recorded in collaboration with the rapper received a ‘Gold’ certification for more than 0.5 million units sold on January 22, 2019.
  15. In early February 2019, Young Dolph organized a special competition that he titled TheMajorChallenge.

On March 3, 2019, while Young Dolph was eating at the Cracker Barrel in Atlanta, Georgia, thieves broke into his car and stole a Patek Phillipe watch priced at $85,000, and 2 diamond chains worth just as much.
