1. She was named after Princess Irene of Greece, her maternal grand-aunt and sister of her grandmother Queen Sofia of Spain. Queen Sofia revealed in her book that she also simply liked the name.
2. A part of her full name, “de Todos los Santos” is customary to the Spanish Royal Family. It translates to “of All Saints”.
3. She was born at the Teknon Medical Center in Barcelona, Spain, at 3:55 P.M. Irene weighted 3.685 kg or about 8 lbs and measured 50 cm or about 19.5 inches at birth.
4. She was born 3 months before her cousin, Leonor, Princess of Asturias.
5. Irene used to be close to Leonor growing up. As she reached her early teens, she grew closer to Victoria, her older cousin and Leonor’s sister, and her maternal aunt, Elena.
